Igbo tribe

  Igbo is one of the three (3) main ethnic linguistic tribes living in Nigeria, in the south eastern part today with formidable culture, traditions and customs. Other tribes are Hausa in the north and Yoruba in the west. The tribe is adjudged a complex one because of its stress on individual and group achievement in constructing social institutions and at the same time time maintaining a balance between the need to retain the wisdom of the elders and the demand for technical and professional knowledge of energetic and enterprising young men in order to achieve efficiency  and economy in public administration. Igbo popular idiom is ' nwata kwochaa aka, osoro okonyie rie NRI ' - " A child who washes his hands, dines with his elders".
  The Igbo nation is one that rejects imperialism or a supreme ruler over us because our nation was founded on republicanism".  Igbo tribe is the pride of Africans for its brevity , enterprising and technological ability. It is described  as the only tribe in Africa  that resisted  the British conquest and checkmated Islamic jihafd towards Igbo land. An Igbo historian. Professor Afigbo writes about the tribe:


" Though colonial rule [ by the British] transformed Igbo society in many respects, it did not destroy the Igbo identity or cultural soul. The Igbo have remained 'Igbo'  in their attitude to and style of life; that is , while ethnic essence because they were astute enough to use in their own way, the new institutions and values introduced by colonialism.

  The progree of the tribe hinged on ndigbo receptivity to Christianity and western education under the the British colonialism and christain missionaries  evangelization in the region. These played a vital role in the individual and group achievement with the tribe. The tribe and its people, " because heavily represented in professional , managerial, technical and commercial occupations and many migrated to other regions of nigeria". Ndigbo played a major role in securing nigeria independence from Britain in 1960 . in 1966 when political conflict erupted in nigeria and Igbo immigrants were massacred in their thousands in the northern. Region. Muslim Hausa /Fulani home, ndigbo  fled to their he land and waged war of secession from Nigeria nation from 1967- 1970. They declared igboland "Republic of Biafra ".  The civil war ended in 1970 following the cease agreement of " No victor, no vanquish". Then Igbo tribe went back to nigeria nation once against . The importance of the tribe for the peacefilul co-existence and economy of nigeria as a nation cannot be under - estimated . it has natural resources, technology , commerce and brevity
