Today's youth are faced with the challenge of copping with an ever broadening spectrum of influences on decision making and behaviour, and many of this influences , which stem from the home, peer group, peer group , the media , technological advancement and the society, have potentially negative effects on their growth and development. The home , for instance , is where the child is supposed to be groomed and prepared for adult life , but many parents , though produce offspring , are not ready for parents hood. They are either unavailable because they are caught in the rat race, or they set bad examples for there children. The few who makes themselves available and are not serious about training children focus only on their intellectual, and perhaps social development , neglecting the emotional and spiritual aspect of there lives, which is the more crucial.
Peer group pressure is commonly associated with episode of youth risk taking such as delinquency , drug abuse and defiant behaviour . The media teach you voice and hooliganism , brutality , worldliness, lewdness through t.v shows and movies , technology , especially the social media and phones , it allows them to have meaningless communication and deprive them of basic skills and etiquettes because of absence of face to face communication with others, and the society completely destroys their moral fibre and self esteem with adult hypocrisy and bad role models.
Children are born into a world where everybody cares for them. Every decision is made for them in early years , and they learn to love and trust the adults around them. They assume what adults says and do are always right. But as they grow older , they come to realise adults do not always live according to what they say nor are they always what they ought to be. Even those in whom they place there confidence in sometimes prove to be a heart breaking disappointment to them. The response to this awareness that there is often inconsistency among adults sometimes causes some young people to think nobody is honest, nobody cares and nobody is willing to do what is right. Aside from being troubled over what they perceive to be hypocrisy in adult , they are misguided by some adults with questionable lifestyle and characters, such as certain celebrities so called , whom they idolize.
