Physical features on Igbo land and culture

  Igboland or ala Igbo  is in the southern part of Nigeria since Nigeria is divided into six geo polical zone or regions. Igbo land is blessed with vibrant communities, well recognised for their diverse physical and cultural traits, artistic creations , religious , festivities and philosophy of life. Oral history has it that Igbo land existed thousands of years before other tribes in  Nigeria and has the oldest kingdom in the country known as NRI kingdom today.
Therefore , it is the birthplace of many of Nigeria ancient traditions and civilizations dated perhaps four thousand five hundred (4500) years ago, while the area "extends to well over 40,000 square kilometers" in a rich and fertile crescent. Igbo land is divided by river Niger  into two unequal sections : - The eastern and Midwestern region. The Eastern region is called Eastern Igbo while those on the west bank are western Igbo other wise referred to as Ika Igbo. The area is watered by four main rivers :  the anambra , IMO , Niger and urashi, and all flow from the north , meandering towards the south , emptying themselves into the sea. Despite the division , these rivers have not acted as barriers to cultural unity of the people : but rather they are assets that provided easy means of communication and made agriculture possible in Igbo land.

   Igbo land , the southeastern region has four main vegetation belts otherwise knowns as : the " the mangrove forest and fresh water swamps of the Niger delta, the rain forest  of the central parts and the guinea savanna of the northern fringe. The climate in the area is tropical and humid while the region experience two seasons namely ; raining season from April to November and dry season from December to march  to march ending.

   Tropical disease such as mosquito bites, malaria , all these constitute to serious health hazard , Igbo land is the most densely populated region and covers the following states out of the 36 states of the federal republic of Nigeria: Abia , anambra, ebonyi , Enugu , IMO and part of delta. Ndigbo are also found in quite significant numbers in akwa ibom and cross river and river states. Igbo land has the following neighbours on all sides : the Bini , warri , ijaw, ogoni, igala, tiv, yako and Ibibio.
