video assistant referee(VAR) is a technology  set up  by FIFA to  ensure  that there is an unbias judgement  by referees during matches. This technology  only has to  do with situation  that involves  goals  scored,offside,red card . They help the center referee  determine whether  a player deserve to  be booked or not with the help of system which supports a replay.

Before a referee can make decisions,he must first consult the assistant  referee to know their decision.

VAR consist of 3 officials,each has his own system(computer) which he will use in analysing the situation,and after this,they will collectively decide what the center referee should do. The invention of this system has been generally welcome with joy and gladness by many fans. Many fans believe that  it will bring sanity to the game,some say there won't be foul call by center ref.

   These points  are very  much  correct. During 2010 world cup in South Africa, Frank Lampard  goal was wrongly ignored by the official thinking the ball hasn't cross the goal line.This kind of situation won't repeat itself anymore now that there is video assistant referee who will view the replay before giving the center official the true answer.
This system if properly maintained by trustworthy individual will help bring a faultless officiating during matches and during any tournament. Another positive  effect the system is having on the world football is that it helps ref to maintain and cool his temper in a high profile games such as El_classico(Real Madrid vs Barcelona), Chelsea vs arsenal etc.

Times back, any referee officiating El-classico always feels nervous thereby  favouring home team,sometimes even gives an undeserved red cards to players. Now  that  there is a backup referee,he knows that there is an opportunity  to watch replay of situations before judging, referees now feel free to  officiate and enjoy the game of football.

As much as some fans love this system, there are also some that seems not to like the idea,they question the efficacy of the system.

The negative effect this system will have on football on a long run is that football will tends to loose its value and its interesting parts in a match filled with rough tackles such as el-classico and other matches involving top two clubs, or final match of any major tournament. If a referee in a match, consults the (VAR) for 6 times in a match and in this process spent 30 minutes altogether,fans won't seems to enjoy the game and will feel tired waiting for center referee's decision.

There won't be 100% efficiency by the system, this is what England's coach Southgate said in an interview with the press after his team loss to France in a friendly in June this year, he said  that out of 10 decisions, 7 will be right while 3 will be wrong which is the truth.As long as the decision is been made by human, there is a tendency for a wrong call.

Finally,despite the fact that video referee has its own negative effect on football, it is still  a welcome development for football and if properly managed and governed, it will take football to another level.
